the Hacienda exhibition

"Hacienda exhibition"

The "Hacienda 25 the exhibition: fac 491" runs from 19 July 2007 to 17 February 2008. The Hacienda was a very famous, legendary nightclub in Manchester. It is the 25th anniversary of this not existing any more iconographic place founded by Tony Wilson. It was opened in 1982 and closed in 1997. The Hacienda was not just a nightclub, it was a place with its own culture and a music venue.
The Hacienda had a very strong visual identity. The exhibition brings photos, film, video, posters and much more about the life of those involved in the Hacienda.
In my opinion it is a very important and interesting exhibition for all who have been the Hacienda's guests. For people who were there, who saw those venues and lived at this life it must be a very emotional and intensive experience. The posters and videos and other items from the Hacienda, they have special meanings and they bring memories back of this crazy time. I understand the importance of this exhibition. However for me, somebody who has never been there, who came to England three years ago and has never heard about this place before, this exhibition did not inspire me emotionally. What it did give me is some knowledge about the Hacienda. I can see a big influence of this place on British music and design, I can understand how important the Hacienda was for Manchester and how it changed Manchester's image. It is a very good exhibition to show the roots of Manchester's look. I would recommend anyone who has been to this influential club known as the Hacienda to go to Urbis and relive old memories. For anyone who has not been to the Hacienda this exhibition is good source of knowledge about this 20th century cultural symbol.
